This past year has been a tough one for my family. Between family health challenges and the normal chaos of parenting, I realized I had spent so much time taking care of everyone else that I hadn’t taken much time to reset myself.
When I had to travel to Arizona for an event, I decided to turn it into a solo wellness getaway at CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa.
And I’m so glad I did.
I’ve visited wellness resorts before, including Miraval Resort and Spa, and what I loved about CIVANA is that it offers many of the same experiences like wellness classes, outdoor adventures, delicious healthy food, and spa treatments, but at a more accessible price point so more people can enjoy this type of getaway.

CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa is about 40 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, making it an easy wellness escape. They had a shuttle and private transportation available at an additional cost, or you can Uber.
Here are a few highlights from my stay.
The Rooms at CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa
The rooms at CIVANA are spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The bed was cozy and the overall design felt calm and relaxing, which is exactly what you want after a full day of activities.
When I arrived, I was also given a reusable CIVANA water bottle which I carried with me everywhere. There are stations around the property filled with refreshing fruit-infused spa water, making it easy to stay hydrated throughout the day.
One small tip: they don’t provide a tote bag, so it’s helpful to bring one to carry your water bottle and anything you might need for the day’s classes or activities.

Wellness Classes and Activities in Arizona
One of the things that makes CIVANA special is the huge variety of daily classes that are included in your stay, though some have an additional fee. Guests can choose from everything from yoga and meditation to fitness classes, outdoor adventures, and reflective workshops like journaling or spiritual sessions. It’s easy to design the exact kind of day you want, whether that’s active and social or slower and more reflective.
During my stay I tried the Athlete Within class and a boxing class, both of which were energizing and surprisingly fun. One of my favorite experiences was a three-hour guided hike through the desert. Despite being labeled intermediate, it felt very manageable. Our small group included three other women and two guides who shared fascinating information about the plants, wildlife, and landscape along the way. It was a beautiful way to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and connect with nature.
I also built in a lot of pool time because I needed time to just relax and soak in the warm heat after a cold winter. They have two pools and food and beverage service at both, which was excellent.

Healthy and Delicious Food at CIVANA
The food at CIVANA was both healthy and genuinely delicious.
Some of my favorites included the Green Goddess smoothie and a nourishing Buddha Bowl that made me feel like I was truly fueling my body with goodness. There are heartier options too, like a burger, or one morning I had a great egg sandwich before heading out for the day.
Guests can either pay for meals individually or choose an all-inclusive dining option. If I return, I would probably choose the all-inclusive plan so I could try everything without worrying about cost. Alcohol is not included in the plan.

The Spa Experience
They have a great spa. It has a water circuit where you can go in the hot and cold pools. They also have a saltwater pool that I swam laps in and really enjoyed. They had lots of relaxation areas, which were nice.
I also treated myself to a Hot Stone Massage, something I had never experienced before. The combination of the heated stones and massage helped my muscles completely relax. It was incredibly calming and such a treat!

The Overall Vibe at This Arizona Wellness Resort
Having visited Miraval before, I did notice a slightly different vibe at CIVANA. The service level felt a bit more casual and at times the resort felt slightly more lively and social. There were lots of mom-daughter trips and groups of friends, which gave the resort a fun energy. At the same time, it was still easy to find quiet moments for reflection.
Even traveling solo, I ended up meeting several wonderful women during classes and on the hike.

Why Every Mom Should Take a Solo Wellness Getaway Once
This trip reminded me how important it is for moms to occasionally step away and recharge.
Taking even a weekend away to reflect, move your body, and focus on yourself can make a huge difference. My time at CIVANA gave me the reset I didn’t realize I needed.
And if you ever have the chance to take a solo wellness getaway, I highly recommend CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa.
You deserve it.
